“With the subsidy from the Municipality of Steenwijkerland, we deliberately chose to support innovative solutions that contribute to a sustainable future. The pilot — in which cut vegetation was injected to improve soil conditions and achieve permanent carbon storage in peatlands — has shown that smart, nature-based techniques can truly make a difference.
It is inspiring to see De Veenmakers now taking the next step: moving from a successful pilot to scaling up. Initiatives like this are essential for achieving climate goals and strengthening peatland ecosystems.
We are proud of our contribution and are following with great interest how this local success continues to develop.”

“We can no longer do without methods to remove CO₂ from the atmosphere. Restore Carbon / Veenmakers are developing applications that can contribute to this in the near term, with an open attitude toward thorough research into their outcomes.”

"Restore Carbon is innovating new ways to enhance carbon sequestration in peatlands as part of the rehabilitation process - we are looking forward to working with Restore Carbon to better understand the influence of these techniques on the hydrology, ecology and biogeochemistry of peatlands and to explore the potential of these approaches to enhance the ecosystem service provision of these ecosystems in Ireland".

Partnerships

Restore Carbon is working with scientists, communities, farmers, ngo’s and more to thoughtfully deploy our peatland-based climate solution. Our aim is to improve climate change while providing co-benefits to the farmers and communities we partner with.

We are currently seeking deployment sites in peatlands. Potential site locations include:

  • Farming Peatlands
  • Nature peatlands

If you represent or are familiar with potential sites, please reach out and our team will get in touch.
