In May, scientific experts, local stakeholders and organisations involved in peatland restoration and regional development gathered at Lullymore Heritage Park in County Kildare. Restore Carbon took part in the interactive workshop, which explored the climate potential of Ireland’s peatlands. A video of the event is now available.
The video offers a glimpse of the conversations and the people who took part. Participants discussed the role of peatlands as carbon sinks, the challenges of protecting and restoring degraded peatlands, and how durable carbon removal could complement conventional restoration measures.
For Restore Carbon, the workshop was an opportunity to explain our approach, exchange knowledge and hear directly from stakeholders. Their perspectives help inform how future projects are designed, assessed and implemented.
Technology alone cannot restore peatlands. It takes collaboration with the people, organisations and communities connected to the landscape. That is why meaningful stakeholder engagement should begin before deployment.
Watch the video for a glimpse of the workshop and the people involved.
